Solo Leveling's official sequel has now been running for over a year. Here's where things actually stand for readers who finished the original and are deciding whether to continue.
What Is Ragnarok?
Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is the official continuation of Solo Leveling, not a side story or spin-off. It follows Suho Sung, the son of Sung Jinwoo, set approximately two decades after the events of the original series.
- Status: Ongoing
- Creator: Chugong (Story, same as original), Different art team
- Setting: A second wave of gates opening worldwide, with Suho carrying inherited abilities he doesn't yet fully understand
The Reception So Far
Reception has been mixed, with the divide falling predictably along what readers valued in the original.
What's Working
The premise is structurally sound — a second-generation protagonist inheriting a legacy he doesn't fully understand, in a world that has changed significantly since his father's era. The most recent arcs have delivered large-scale action sequences closer in ambition to what readers expect from the franchise.
What's Not Working (For Some Readers)
The early chapters were notably slower than Solo Leveling's relentless momentum, particularly in its mid-to-late arcs. The pacing criticism is the most consistent reader complaint and is fair — the opening of Ragnarok does not hit the ground running the way the original did.
The art team change is the more significant issue for many readers. DUBU's work on Solo Leveling — particularly the shadow army sequences and final boss encounters — set an extremely high bar. Ragnarok's art is competent but does not consistently reach those heights. This is the single most common reason readers who loved the original have stepped back from the sequel.
